Washing

Here's how to properly wash your yak and camel wool performance clothing so you can enjoy your favorite pieces for years to come.

Wool does not need frequent washing. Thanks to its antibacterial properties, wool is naturally odor-resistant. Often, it doesn’t need to go straight into the laundry after a single wear. Simply airing it out is enough.

This way, you help protect the environment, reduce your workload, and extend your garment's life.

Learn more here about how to properly care for your functional clothing made of yak and camel wool.

If your favorite yak and camel wool piece needs to go in the wash, don’t worry. We’ve put together a step-by-step guide to washing yak and camel wool properly.

STEP-BY-STEP: HOW TO WASH YOUR YAK AND CAMEL WOOL PROPERLY

  1. Turn your garment inside out. This reduces friction on the outer fabric and prevents pilling, so your garment stays looking like new for a long time.
  2. Don’t overload the drum. Wash your yak and camel garments separately, without mixing them with other woolen items. Never wash wool together with cotton or linen. These fabrics are rougher and can cause more pilling on your wool.
  3. Use a gentle wool detergent without lanolin. Never use standard all-purpose detergents—they’re too harsh and can damage the structure of the wool fibers over time. Yak and camel hair must not be treated with lanolin. Otherwise, the fine wool fibers would clump together over time, impairing the breathability of your functional clothing. Never wash your yak and camel wool with detergents that contain optical brighteners. They permanently damage the wool's IRR properties.
  4. We highly recommend the gentle all-purpose detergent with soapwort extract from Ulrich natürlich. Ulrich natürlich’s detergent is gentle on wool fibers yet cleans effectively. Of course, you’re also welcome to use another wool detergent, as long as it’s free of lanolin.
  5. To ensure the longest possible lifespan, wash your functional clothing on a cold cycle using your washing machine’s hand-wash or delicate cycle at a low speed of no more than 400 revolutions per minute. Only for stubborn stains or odors do we recommend a wash cycle at a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F).
  6. After washing, lay your performance clothing flat on a drying rack to dry. Avoid direct sunlight. Never dry your clothing in a clothes dryer.

With these tips, you can wash our performance clothing made of yak and camel wool gently and safely to extend its lifespan, so you can enjoy it for years to come and let it accompany you on many adventures.

IMPORTANT NOTE

During the first wash, loose fibers from the manufacturing process may be rinsed out of the garment. To prevent your washing machine from clogging, wash a new performance shirt by itself. If you’ve purchased multiple performance shirts, it’s better to wash them separately the first time.
