FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Which material is better: yak wool or camel wool?
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It often depends on the intended use. As a general rule, yak wool is a higher-quality, more exclusive fiber, surpassing camel wool in all technical properties except its ability to adapt to extremely high temperatures.
Yak wool is the better choice for cold, wet climates and high-mountain use. Compared to camel wool, it offers superior insulation and breathability, better moisture management, a better warmth-to-weight ratio, and greater resistance to the elements; it is softer, more abrasion-resistant, and provides better protection against UV rays and odors. Only yak wool reliably protects you in high-alpine weather conditions and at elevations above 2,500 meters above sea level from snow, cold, high-altitude winds, sudden weather changes, increased UV radiation, and heat loss due to evaporative cooling.
Camel wool is ideal for warmer, dry climates, for very high temperatures up to 45 °C, and for significant day-to-night temperature fluctuations. While yak wool is designed to minimize evaporative cooling, camel wool uses the moisture it absorbs to create a pleasant, light coolness even in extreme heat, keeping you cool even in the height of summer and during strenuous activities. It’s also a slightly more affordable choice for easy hikes, changeable spring and fall weather, and trips below the tree line.
You explain: Wool cools you down when it’s hot. Why don’t I notice that?
If you’re still too warm despite wearing our wool clothing, it’s usually for one of two reasons: Much of wool’s cooling effect comes from the heat absorbed as moisture evaporates from the wool. For this evaporative cooling to take place, the wool must first absorb moisture—in warm, dry climates, this happens primarily when you sweat. The wool absorbs moisture from your body and transports it to the outside, where it evaporates in the air and creates a cooling effect. In other words: Just like the air conditioning in a car, wool needs some time to reach its full potential. So, in the first few minutes, you might still feel a little too warm. Once the wool has absorbed some moisture, it provides pleasant cooling and supports your body’s natural temperature regulation.
Especially if you’re wearing wool for the first time in the summer or while exercising, your body may need to get used to it—while wool supports your body’s natural temperature regulation, your body first needs to understand how your new clothing works—after all, for far too long it’s had to cope with polyester or cotton clothing that worked in direct opposition to its own temperature management. This adaptation process usually takes a few days to a few weeks—you’ll quickly notice that once you’ve gotten used to wool, you’ll never want to wear anything else again. In our experience, the slimmer and more athletic you are, the faster your body adapts to the new situation.

Unfortunately, we don’t currently have our own retail store and aren’t available in stores yet. If you’re from the Munich area, we’d love to invite you for a kebab on Leopoldstrasse, right across from our HQ. There, you’ll have the chance to try on our products and chat with us in person.
We also offer trunk shows at the locations of units and units of the German Armed Forces, the police, and foreign military forces stationed in Germany. Within Bavaria, we can often visit on short notice—the farther you are from Munich, the more lead time we’ll need. During our trunk shows, you’ll have the chance to see the quality of our products for yourself. Plus, great discounts await you.
We’re also happy to give expert presentations on the right clothing for every season and climate zone and advise military leaders on the proper equipment for mission planning. Although we occasionally include some promotion for our products, we’re happy to provide you with neutral and unbiased information about various materials and their pros and cons in every climate zone.
